cream

cream is a browser extension that augments your browsing experience with venture capital funding data from Crunchbase. When you go to a website, it checks whether that website belongs to a company with funding, and if so, displays the total amount, in dollars.

Using it is weird: you’ll tab from Google, funded to the tune of 25 million, to Twitter, with 1.2 billion.

Caveats galore:

• Crunchbase’s data quality and accessibility dramatically fell between September and December, so this is a few months behind the times.
• Right now this only works for top-level domains, not subdomains.

It’s meant to impart awareness or at least wariness.
